What to bring out of country : to Latin America

For Guatemala:

We recommend trying to keep the bags light if you plan on doing a bit of travel. Remember that we will be in the high mountains so it can be a little chilly in the night or day. We advice Not bringing things of HUGE value or sentiment unless needed.

 

Travel Documents & Essentials

 ~ Passport (valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay)
 ~ Visa (if required)
 ~ Travel insurance (including health coverage)
Photocopies of documents (or digital copies stored securely)
~ Emergency contacts (written down in case of phone issues)

Money & Payments

~ Local currency (some cash for small purchases)
~ Debit/credit cards (notify your bank about travel)
~ Small bills (for taxis, markets, and tips)

Clothing & Shoes

~ Lightweight, breathable clothing (hot/humid climates)
~ Layers (cool evenings or high-altitude areas)
~ Rain jacket or poncho (rainy season)
~ Comfortable walking shoes
~ Sandals/flip-flops (for beaches or showers)
Swimsuit
~ Sun hat & sunglasses

~ Personal medications (with prescriptions if you have)
~ First aid kit (band-aids, antiseptic, pain relievers)

~ Hand sanitizer & wet wipes Ear Plugs (Latin America can be noisier than you might be custom to)
~ Toiletries (some places may not have your preferred products)

~ Phone & charger

~ Unlocked phone (for local SIM card use, or a travel plan on your phone)~ Portable power bank (optional)
~ Universal travel adapter (if coming from Europe)
~ Headphones

Safety & Security

~ Money belt or anti-theft bag
~ Copy of important documents (stored separately from originals)

Extras

~ Spanish phrasebook or translation app
~ Notebook & pen
~ Reusable water bottle (with filter is nice incase travel to areas with unsafe tap water)
~ Snacks (for long travel days)
~ Small gifts (optional-fun to have-meeting new people)
